Support independent publishing: Buy this book on Lulu.

I have published my first poetry and prose books. I did not ever think this day would get here. But I made up my mind I wanted to publish my poetry, and now it is published. No one but me has bought the books, but that is beside the point. I am just glad I did it. R

What if You are not Interested in Genealogy?

You can still write stories, make calendars and even personalized decks of cards and more. All you need are some photos and a few short stories about the photos. If you want to have an all photo no words book, that it ok too. I have a website to help you write your own story.
I have ideas on how to start a story. How to tell a story. And how nice the books can turn out. R

What I am Publishing Next

I am writing a family history book about one line of my family. It goes back about 5 generations and I introduce my ancestors and their spouses one generation at a time. It is not a long book. Nor do I go into great detail. It is a coffee table type book that starts my family on the journey to knowing their ancestors.
It seems to me, that if you keep up as you research, make a book on one branch of your family, then the information is out there. It is a great thing to share your family history and get the kids involved in their ancestors. Best of all, you are sharing the information. The more people who know the information the less likely the information will be lost to history.

Cousins are Family Forever

I have been so fortunate to meet so many new cousins. They are family by dna and family by choice. We always have something to talk about! Genealogy. We may not see each other often. We may never actually meet. But with email the world is quite nicely small enough to keep in communication. So tonight I want to make a shout out to all my new cousins. Hello Cousins. I hope your night is going well!

I especially want to say a special HI, to my oldest new cousin who thinks we should wear trenchcoats with Scottish Plaid Clan Scarves. She also thinks our ancestors may have been the first BC women who wore earrings and make-up. (That thought always makes me smile) Hello Cousin! Wish I was there. R

I am up North. I love it up North. But.....The technology is not stellar. We have 3G or so we are told. But....It works spotty at best. It is catch as catch can for my emails. And the cell service...Well__is_______good. And that is the truth. So until I have a better connection, when I am up north. I am really up North. (Without a technological paddle.) Here is hoping that 4G arrives up North soon. Rachel

Genealogy and Medical Family History

As I was making family trees for clients, I began to realize a medical history beginning to form. Things like pulmonary hypertension, heart and stroke, diabetes, and even aneurisms. At times it was amazing how strong the medical history ran through a line. As I had been a Station Secretary in a previous job, I realized that reporting this history to your doctor might be important. So now when I see that quite a few people in a family tree have died of aneurisms, for instance, I let my client know, and suggest they tell their doctor. It may be nothing or it may be something. I feel it is better to tell your doctor and let them decide. Making family trees is fun and informative about family history, it might also be a good way to find medical history in a line, too. I include medical family history in your tree, if I find it. That is why I feel it is important to have death certificates available for purchase on extended family members. It is a good way to know, officially, how someone died. It may just help someone avoid having medical problems which are genetically related by changing a lifestyle or catching the problem before it gets to be a problem.

I Keep Track of the Stats on my Site....Especially when My Site is this New...

So I want to say Hi! to all the people who have visited so far. Sometimes I write these little notes and I wonder if I am writing them to myself. It is good to know I am not. Thank you and Hi! to the people from Germany and Australia. I have ancestors from both places. Please leave me a note from time to time. I would love to hear from you.

It is so Much Fun to Have Cousins All Over the World

Before I started Genealogy, I only had 2 first cousins, and we weren't close. Now I have cousins in Canada, Dublin, New Zealand and all over the United States. We help each other by getting information or documents from our part of our country. It is great to see photos that I would never have seen if it were not for my cousins. Or to see marriage items in a local paper in Minnadosa Canada. It all fills in the tree with a little more story type information. Plus it is just nice to have the company for a little while on the journey to find more ancestors in different places. I hope I will be able to keep up contact with my new cousins. It is great to be able to have a world family who shares your dna and family experience.

Genealogy as a Shared Activity

Although I like Genealogy in any form, it is fun to coordinate with another person. Each of you can participate in a way that accentuates your strengths. For instance, my husband is a whiz at finding people and/or places on the Census. So he concentrates on the Census. I am better at genealogical research and finding new and better websites. So that is where I usually start. It is great to find documented information on the ancestor you are working on and even better when two people can find things independently and share what they have found together. It halves the work that needs to be done, and is fun, too.

Mount Rushmore 1968

My Dad gave me his slides to scan and make pictures.  The very first box I opened up was our trip out West.  We went to Yellowstone, The Badlands, the Mountains, and Mount Rushmore.  We lived in Rollite Trailer for a month or so.  It was the cadillac of trailers.  We went with Mom, Dad, us three kids and Grandma and Grandpa.  A little packed for the Rollite, but we were a close family.  Now when I saw the slides after they were scanned, I knew they would make a great book.  Here is the link to that book

What to do With all those Slides your Dad has Hid Away...Publish....

I started scanning my Dads slides when I realized, this was good stuff.  Maybe not to everyone, but to the family and friends that remembered you from that time.  Soooo..here is a book about a 1968 trip that our family made in a Rollite Trailer.

Welcome to My New and Doing Double Duty Blog........

Due to some unforseen consequences of webhost change, my other website will not be available til the dust settles.  So I thought I would combine 2 of my favorite things, Genealogy and Publishing Family History.  I have done calendars, flip books, canvases, books, and posters to show different aspects of family history.  I will make sure to bring up some of my virtual creations.  I think you will agree that they make the best gifts in the world.
